All shall be well

on January 30, 2013

Sea, sky, sand.

One or two seagulls. A few people with the freedom to get down to the beach on such a lovely afternoon.

Less than a week ago, there was deep snow. Today, not a trace.

Life throws stuff at us and we can easily get submerged. But like the snow, it too will pass. As the 14th century anchorite Julian of Norwich said in her wonderful Revelations of Divine Love (the first work published in English by a woman):

“God said not ‘Thou shalt not be afflicted’ but ‘Thou shalt not be overcome’.” And later:  “All things shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.”

So let us indeed “live gladly and gaily, because of His love.”
