What day is it?

on January 31, 2013

I do know it’s Thursday. But I’ve just done Friday. I was a bit worried about it but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

The residential home where my husband lives is having a very special day tomorrow packed with interesting events so we decided we’d have our outing today. And it has worked very well. In fact better than on a Friday. The town we visited was quieter. Parking was much easier. Shops friendlier.

And the sun shone.

We’re thinking of changing our outing day to Thursday for February, as an experiment. One bonus is that we’ll then actually be lunching out on Valentine’s Day! I’ll have to think of somewhere specially nice to go.

But today was fine. He got three interesting books and a nice glass of wine with his Chinese lunch. The shop where I planned to get myself a smart pair of black trousers was having a 20% discount day (so I bought more than planned!).

And the drive back was beautiful: the huge East Anglian sky a pale washed blue with fluffy white clouds, the fields softest pastel green, and as we came through the woods, the bracken was burnished bronze by the sun and the silver birches lit like slender white candles.

“The Lord is our light and our salvation – whom shall we fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of our lives – of whom shall we be afraid?”

Psalm 27. Good words for a worrier like me. It’s so easy to let fear steal your peace and joy. But then one little step back, mentally, remembering that God – the Creator, the Almighty – is our loving Father… Wow. Suddenly everything falls into a completely different perspective and those questions – whom shall we fear? – they become rhetorical. Rightly.
